Ingredients
- Basic Stuff:
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter (melt)
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup (40 g) cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1/2 cup (65 g) flour (all-purpose)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- Extra Goodies:
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips OR chunks
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
Step 1: Oven Time. Crank your oven up to 350°F (175°C). Grease a square baking pan, think an 8x8 inch one and put parchment paper in it, leaving a bit hanging over the edges.
Step 2: Wet Stuff First: Grab a big bowl and whisk together the melted butter and sugar until it’s smooth. Add the eggs one by one. Beat well after each egg. Then toss in the vanilla extract.
Step 3: Dry Stuff Next: In a different bowl, mix up the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Slowly add this dry mix to your wet ingredients until everything's combined.
Step 4: Fancy Add-ins: If you are using chocolate chips or nuts, fold them into the batter.
Step 5: Into the Pan It Goes: Pour that brownie batter into your prepared pan and spread it out nice and even with a spatula.
Step 6: Bake Away: Pop the pan into your oven and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes. If you stick a toothpick in the middle and it comes out with just a few crumbs, they are done. Don't let them overbake though; they will get dry.
Step 7: Cool Down and Serve Up: Let those brownies cool in their pan for around 10 to 15 minutes. Use that parchment paper overhang to lift them out onto a wire rack. Cool them completely before slicing them into squares.
Tips and Variations:
- Melted Butter: It makes denser and fudgier brownies.
- Mix but don’t overmix: When adding dry ingredients, just combine.
- More Chocolate’s Always Better: Toss some extra chocolate chips or chunks in if you want melty pockets of goodness.
- Check Sooner: Start checking at around 20 minutes so they don’t overbake. A slightly underdone center means they will set while cooling.
- Peanut Butter Swirl Brownies: Drop Spoonfuls of peanut butter on top and swirl with a knife.
- Salted Caramel Brownies: Drizzle caramel sauce on top before baking and sprinkle sea salt.
- Nutty Brownies: Toss in half a cup of chopped walnuts or pecans for some crunch.
- Double Chocolate Brownies: Add even more chocolate chips or chunks for extra yum.
