Ingredients
- 1 lb (about 1216 spears) fresh asparagus, ends trimmed
- 8 slices of thincut bacon
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese for garnishing
Instructions
- Prepare the asparagus: Wash and cut off the tough ends of the asparagus. Dry them with a towel so they cook evenly.
- Season the asparagus: Put olive oil on the asparagus spears. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and garlic powder if you like. Mix gently so every spear is covered.
- Wrap with Bacon: Take 2 or maybe even 3 spears of asparagus. Wrap one slice of bacon around each bunch from bottom to top. Keep wrapping until all are done. Use toothpicks if needed to hold them together.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about three minutes so it heats up well.
- Cook the asparagus: Place all your bundles in one layer in the air fryer basket. Don't pack them in too tight if you want that bacon crispy. Cook for about ten to twelve minutes and flip halfway through cooking time. The bacon should be crispy and the asparagus tender when they are done.
- Serve: Take out your bundles and put them on a serving plate. For extra flavor, add a touch of lemon juice or some grated Parmesan cheese on top. Serve while hot with crispy bacon.
Tips and Variations:
- Choosing asparagus: Thicker stalks work best here since they hold up during cooking. Thin stalks might get too soft before the bacon is done crisping.
- Bacon Thickness: Thin-cut works best because it crisps quicker in an air fryer. If using thick-cut, cook longer by about three to five more minutes or pre-cook before wrapping around your asparagus.
- Seasonings: Try different flavors. Add paprika, chili flakes, or even balsamic glaze for some extra kick.
- Cheesy Finish: For more cheesy goodness towards the end, sprinkle grated Parmesan or mozzarella on top during the last minute of cooking; the cheese will melt nicely, adding richness.
- Low-Carb Keto-Friendly: This dish has low carbs, which make it perfect for those following strict diets like keto.
- Oven-Baked Version: If you are not interested in using an air fryer, no problem. Bake in a 400°F (200°C) oven instead for around fifteen to twenty minutes., flipping halfway through the broil for the last two minutes if necessary, until nice crisp is achieved.
