Ingredients

  • 4 fillets salmon (about 6 oz each)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoon [use tamari to make gluten-free]
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Chopped fresh parsley or thinly sliced green onions, for garnish (optional)
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

Baked Honey Garlic Salmon

  1. Prepare the Oven: To bake your Whippets, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C), then line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it so that they are easier to remove once cooled.
  2. Season the Salmon: Wipe salmon fillets with paper towels to dry. Arrange the skin side down on the prepared baking sheet. Season with some salt and pepper.
  3. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In a small bowl, combine olive oil (or melted butter), honey, garlic minced, soy sauce, and lemon juice.
  4. Glaze the Salmon: Then spoon the honey garlic sauce over each salmon fillet, making sure they are well covered. Optional: Reserve a small amount of the sauce for basting during baking.
  5. Bake: Bake until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork, 12 to 15 minutes. If you prefer it caramelised on the top slightly, put it under the grill for 1 to 2 minutes.
  6. Serve: Top (if desired) with fresh parsley or green onions, and serve with lemon wedges for added citrus.

Tips and Variations

  1. Pick Your Fish: Fresh or frozen salmon both work well with this recipe but know that fresh fish will usually be of a flakier grade. Remember to thaw out the salmon beforehand from frozen.
  2. Double the Spice: If you want it even spicier, throw a few red pepper flakes into that honey garlic glaze.
  3. Easy Clean-Up: Or make clean-up a breeze by putting the salmon and sauce on foil and folding them up to form a packet. Bake as directed.
  4. Different herbs: Fresh thyme or rosemary are also great substitutes for parsley that bring an aromatic flavour.
  5. How to store and reheat: You can keep the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. To reheat, gently re-warm in the oven on low heat so you avoid drying out your delicious salmon.
