Ingredients
- - 4 lbs beef brisket
- - 2 large sliced onions
- - 4 garlic minced cloves
- -1 cup beef
- - ½ cup soy sauce
- - ÂĽ Worcestershire sauce
- - ÂĽ cup cider vinegar
- - ÂĽ cup brown sugar
- -2 tablespoon tomato paste
- - 2 tablespoon olive oil
- - 2 tablespoon paprika
- - 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- - 1 tablespoon pepper
- - 1 tablespoon salt
- - ½ tablespoon cayenne pepper
- - Fresh thyme or rosemary sprigs for garnishing
Instructions
- Prepare the Brisket: First, pat the brisket dry with paper towels. This helps get a good sear.
- Season the Brisket: Then mix up paprika, cumin, black pepper, salt and cayenne pepper in a small bowl. Now rub the brisket with this and mix all over. Let it sit so flavors can sink in.
- Sear the Brisket: Heat some olive oil in a big skillet over medium-high heat. Sear each side of the brisket for about 3 to 4 minutes until browned. This locks in flavor but you can skip if you are short on time.
- Layer Ingredients in Slow Cooker: Now place onion slices and minced garlic on the bottom of your slow cooker. Put that seared brisket right on top.
- Prepare Cooking Liquid: Mix up beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar and tomato paste in a bowl. Pour this over your brisket and onions in the slow cooker.
- Slow Cook the Brisket: Cover with lid and cook on low heat for about 8 to 10 hours, or high heat for about 5 to 6 hours, till it's super tender and easy to shred with a fork.
- Rest the Brisket: When done cooking, carefully take out the brisket and let it chill on a cutting board for about ten minutes before slicing or shredding.
- Serve: Cut against the grain and make sure that pieces are nice and tender. Put onions and cooking juices over slices for extra flavor. Garnish with some fresh thyme or rosemary if you like.
 Tips & Variations:
- Searing Adds Depth: Even though optional, searing adds rich flavor to your dish. Don’t skip if you have time.
- Make It Ahead: Brisket tastes even better next day as flavors deepen. Cook ahead of time and reheat later.
- Add Veggies: Toss some carrots or potatoes into slow cooker last couple hours if you want a full meal.Â
- Spicy Variation: If you are a person who likes to be spicier, then add jalapenos or chili powder to spice rub. You can also swap Worcestershire sauce with hot sauce.
- BBQ Twist: If you want a BBQ style, then just go for BBQ sauce instead of soy sauce and serve more BBQ sauce on side.
- Leftovers Ideas: Use leftovers for sandwiches, tacos or even breakfast hash. Shred and mix with eggs or add to salad.
