Ingredients
- 3 ripe bananas, peeled and split lengthwise
- 3 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 3 scoops chocolate ice cream
- 3 scoops strawberry ice cream
- 1 cup whipped cream
- ¼ cup chocolate syrup
- ¼ cup strawberry syrup
- - ¼ cup pineapple topping (crushed pineapple in syrup)
- ¼ cup chopped nuts (walnuts or almonds)
- Maraschino cherries for garnishing
- - Sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare the bananas: Peel the bananas and split them lengthwise. Put two banana halves in a long, shallow dish or a banana split boat. These will be the bases.
- Add the Ice Cream: Next, place three scoops of ice cream between the banana halves. One vanilla, one chocolate, and one strawberry scoop is traditional, but mix it up if you want.
- Top with Syrups: drizzle chocolate syrup over the chocolate ice cream, strawberry syrup over the strawberry one, and spoon some pineapple topping on vanilla.
- Whipped Cream and Garnishes: Add a big spoonful of whipped cream to each ice cream scoop. Sprinkle chopped nuts all over for that crunchy touch.
- Finishing Touch: Pop a maraschino cherry on top of each whipped cream mound. If you are feeling fancy, then add some colorful sprinkles too.
- Serve Immediately: Serve right away while the ice cream is still cold and firm. This dessert is best when fresh; all those flavors blend perfectly together.
Tips and Variations:
- Mix and Match Ice Cream Flavors: The classic ones are vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, but feel free to mix things up with mint chocolate chip, cookies and cream, or salted caramel to make the dish even tastier.
- Healthy Version: For a lighter take, try frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream instead. Use fresh fruit purees like mashed strawberries or blueberries for sweetness.
- Homemade Toppings: Making your own toppings like homemade ganache or caramel sauce. Toast nuts slightly for a richer taste too.
- Go Nut-Free: Skip nuts and try crushed Graham crackers or pretzel bits instead for that yummy crunch if you get allergies with nuts.
- Vegan Option: Make it plant-based by using non-dairy almond/coconut/oat milk ice creams & dairy-free whipped creams.
- Banana Grilling: For something unique, grill those bananas till soft; they add a nice warmth against cold, icy goodness.
- Add Brownies/Cookies: Add chunks of brownies/cookies/waffle cones—a super indulgent chewy treat inside creamy dessert.
- Tropical Twist: Go tropical using mango/passionfruit puree replacing syrups plus sprinkle toasted coconut flakes.
